I need to bring something to your attention that happened right in Teton Valley this week that should make every conservative in Idaho sit up straight.
Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life and her 16-year-old son launched a local pro-life group to educate neighbors on Prop 1 and defend Idaho’s pro-life laws ahead of the November ballot. They arranged to meet-up at Wydaho Roasters in Driggs. They purchased food and drinks and then sat at tables like any other customers and talked about protecting babies and defeating the late-term abortion measure on the ballot.
The owner, Jim Sheehan, went nuts over them meeting in his establishment.

According to Hawkins, he compared their peaceful pro-life meeting to the KKK. They weren’t protesting. They weren’t disruptive. They were paying customers having a conversation about life. Sheehan decided their beliefs made them unwelcome in his establishment. He has also reportedly claimed he and his wife “did a lot of work” to help get the abortion initiative (Prop 1) on the ballot.
Who is this man? Not an Idahoan.
He lives in Wyoming, just across the border from Driggs. He retired in WY in the last several years from a long life in Minnesota where he made millions of dollars in the tech industry. In 2023 he opened Wydaho Roasters in Driggs, Idaho.
Here is the interesting part – we fully support his right to serve or not serve anyone he wants in his own business. That’s not the issue we want to highlight for you. The issue is the big elephant in the room that no one wants to discuss.
Sheehan and his wife are basically wealthy Minnesota transplants living in Wyoming who decided the values of the people of Idaho needed correcting, and he uses his business on Idaho soil to do it. He hosts “Queer Coffee Hour” and other progressive events, while objecting to pro-life parents and teenagers meeting in his establishment.
This is a pattern. Leftists who prospered under free markets and traditional American opportunity now turn around and import the same cultural and policy wreckage that hollowed out places like Minnesota. Idaho has become a prime target precisely because we still have something left to conserve: strong pro-life laws, a culture that values life, family, and faith, and communities that have not fully surrendered to the progressive project. They see our state as a backward society ready to remake.
We cannot shrug this off as “just a coffee shop in Driggs.” It is a symptom. When a Wyoming resident who made his fortune elsewhere can openly work to put a late-term abortion measure on our ballot and then treat pro-life Idahoans as moral equivalents of the KKK inside an Idaho business, the message is clear: they are coming for the Idaho way of life.
What do we do?
First, be vigilant. Know who is operating in your community and what values they are pushing. Support local businesses that share ours.
Second, defeat Prop 1. This ballot measure is the vehicle. Every encounter, every conversation, every church outreach, every vote matters. Operation: Save Hearts and the broader conservative network exist for moments exactly like this.
Third, keep conservatives in office and hold them accountable. Legislative majorities mean nothing if we lose the cultural ground and the ballot box to the well-funded Left .
Jim Sheehan is free to run his business however he wants. We are free to notice the pattern, refuse to fund it, and organize against the larger project he is advancing. Idaho is not Minnesota and it is not Wyoming. We will remain Idaho.
